Der Löschigel ist ein zylinderförmiger Schlauchaufsatz mit Zerstäuberdüsen. Er wird auf einem kurzen Steckleiterstück, einem Einsteckteil, montiert. Dank der zusätzlichen Rollen kann der Löschigel leicht bewegt werden. Das Gesamtprodukt kann auf eine erweiterbare Steckleiter gesetzt und dadurch aus sicherer Entfernung in ein brennendes Gebäude geschoben werden. Der Brand wird effektiv von innen bekämpft, ohne dass sich Feuerwehrleute in das Gebäude hinein und somit in große Gefahr begeben müssen.
Der Löschigel bietet, bei leichter und intuitiver Handhabung, eine Möglichkeit, das Betreten von Gefahrenbereichen zu vermeiden. Statt einer Einsatzkraft kann einfach der auf einer Steckleiter befestigte Löschigel vorgeschoben werden. Der Sicherheitsabstand und somit die Sicherheit der Einsatzkräfte wird signifikant erhöht. Insbesondere bei Industriebränden oder der Niederschlagung von Gasen und Aerosolen, wie beispielsweise Chlorgas, kommt der Löschigel optimal zum Einsatz.
Darüber hinaus kann eine sinnvolle Kühlung der Gebäudestruktur bei Tiefgaragen- oder Tunnelbränden durch den erzeugten Wassernebel erreicht werden. Somit ist der vorgehende Trupp besser geschützt und kann sich auf die Rettungs- und Löschmassnahmen durch ein handgeführtes Rohr konzentrieren.
