The Magnastat system works by means of a permanent magnet and a ferromagnetic temperature sensor. If the soldering tip is cold, the magnet is attracted by the temperature sensor. In this state the switch is closed and the heating is switched on. If the temperature sensor approaches its Curie point (selected peak temperature), its magnetic
behaviour changes and the heating is switched off. When the tip cools down, the temperature sensor reacts and the control circuit starts again.

The working temperature is selected by changing the soldering tip several times with the temperature sensor attached to it. Weller Longlife soldering tips cover the temperature ranges 260, 310, 370,
425 and 480 C.
